Dial tone
A dial tone (also known as a personal dial tone , ring-back tone , ring-up tone , sound logo or musical ring tone (MFT)) is a feature in the telephone network with which a caller is in the call phase (i.e. until the called subscriber or the answering machine has accepted the call) can hear music parallel to the ringing tone .
In Germany, this (paid) feature is in the beginning of 2004 mobile network of T-Mobile and Vodafone will be available and since the end of 2005, fixed line customers of Deutsche Telekom are available.
The customer can select the ring tone from a large number of available pieces of music and assign it to all callers or only to certain caller groups.
Since this is a network-side feature , dial tone tones work with all telephones . Unlike z. B. in the case of ring tones , the piece of music is not downloaded to the terminal , but is added to the ringing tone in- band signaling using special network elements .
In the course of the further development of this product, some providers are now also offering what is known as video ringback sound.
