Margit Papp

Margit Papp (born April 30, 1948 in Szamossályi , Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County ) is a former Hungarian pentathlete , long jumper and hurdler .

In the pentathlon she came in 18th place at the European Athletics Championships in Budapest with 4240 points and won bronze at the European Junior Games in Odessa with 4319 points. At the EM in 1971 in Helsinki she finished eighth with 4833 points and 23rd place at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich with 4024 points. This was followed by twelfth place at the 1974 European Championship with 4207 points and eighth place with 4535 points at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal .

From 1977, the final 200-meter run in the pentathlon was replaced by the 800-meter run. At the EM 1978 in Prague, Nadija Tkachenko won the pentathlon with 4744 points, ahead of Papp with 4655 points. After Tkachenko was subsequently disqualified for doping, Papp was European champion. In the long jump she was eliminated from the qualification.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Papp started in the long jump and pentathlon . With 6.32 m she retired in the long jump in the qualification. In the pentathlon she was fifth with 4562 points, where she jumped in the long jump with 6.35 m further than in the long jump qualification.

She was Hungarian pentathlon champion six times (1968, 1970, 1976–1978, 1980), twice in the long jump (1973, 1979) and once in the 100 meter hurdles (1979).

Margit Papp is 1.72 m tall and weighed 72 kg at competition times.
