Friday Island is an island in the River Thames in England near Old Windsor , Berkshire . The island is just downstream of the Old Windsor Lock .
The shape of the island is said to correspond to the footprint of Friday , the friend and servant of Robinson Crusoe from Daniel Defoe's novel. There is a small house on the island where for 30 years the forensic scientist Julius Grant lived, who proved that the Hitler diaries were forged. The lock keeper at Old Windsor Lock said that Julius Grant always said it felt like he owned half of Australia when he was on the island because it was so secluded.
