Frieda Otto

Frieda Otto (born May 15, 1911 in Kiel , † April 28, 1985 ) was a German librarian .

Life

Frieda Otto studied economics and received her doctorate from the university in 1957. In her dissertation, she dealt with "Recent trends in federal financial equalization". She then became head of the secretariat and scientific assistant to Wilhelm Gülich . In the library of the Institute for the World Economy at the University of Kiel, which he founded, she became a research assistant and in 1960 Gülich's successor on the advisory board of the working group of special libraries. In numerous lectures at home and abroad she contributed to the reputation of what would later become the Central Library of Economics and dedicated a large part of her activities to the type of special library. She worked on the Kiel literature customers on business and society as well as on the library and documentation standards committee of DIN and on the committee for newspaper issues of the Association of German Librarians . She was also involved in special libraries in the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Here she also took over the editing of Inspel magazine, the magazine of IFLA's special libraries section. Because of her services, Frieda Otto was made an honorary member of the Working Group of Special Libraries.
