The Weißsee is a reservoir with a storage target of 2250 m above sea level. A. , which is located on the border of the Granatspitz and Glockner groups in the Austrian municipality of Uttendorf . It has a storage volume of 15.7 hm³ and is located in the catchment area of the Stubache .
The originally natural lake ( 2225 m ) was enlarged from 1950 to 1952 by the construction of a 39 m high gravity dam with a 235 m long, straight crown. In the Stubachtal power plant group, the Weißsee serves as annual storage for the Enzingerboden storage power plant (81 MW) as well as for Schneiderau (35 MW) and Uttendorf I (27 MW) or alternatively for Uttendorf II (66 MW). These are operated by ÖBB Infra and used to generate traction current . Feeding into the public power grid is also possible. After a planned expansion, the Weißsee will also serve as the upper basin for the Tauernmoos pumped storage power plant (170 MW), the Tauernmoossee ( 2023 m ) as the lower basin.
With the construction of a cable car that leads from Enzingerboden to Rudolfshütte ( 2311 m ) in the immediate vicinity, the area around the Weißsee was opened up for tourism.
