The Tauernmoossee is a reservoir with a storage target of 2023  m above sea level. A. , which is located within the Glockner group in the municipality of Uttendorf . It has a storage volume of 55 hm³ and is fed by the Stubache .

dam

The Tauernmoossee was dammed for the first time in 1929 by a gravity dam with a straight, 190 m long crown to an annual storage with a storage target of 2003  m and a usable volume of 21 hm³. With the completion of the second Tauernmoss barrier in 1973, the usable volume of the Tauernmoossee could be more than doubled. With a length of 1,100 meters, this barrier is one of the longest curved gravity dams in Europe.

Energy use

In the Stubachtal power plant group, the Tauernmoossee serves as annual storage for the storage power plants Enzingerboden (81 MW), Schneiderau (35 MW), Uttendorf I (27 MW) and Uttendorf II (66 MW). These are operated by ÖBB Infra and used to generate traction current . Feeding into the public power grid is also possible. After a planned expansion, the Tauernmoossee will also serve as the lower basin for the Tauernmoos pumped storage power plant (170 MW), the Weißsee ( 2250  m ) as the upper basin.

tourism

With the construction of a cable car , which leads from Enzingerboden to the nearby Grünsee with an extension to the Rudolfshütte , the area around the Tauernmoossee was opened up for tourism.
