Wilhelm Gülich
Wilhelm Daniel Johannes Otto Gülich (born June 7, 1895 in Sachsenberg / Waldeck , † April 15, 1960 in Bad Pyrmont ) was director of the library of the Institute for World Economy and politician of the SPD .
Life and work
Gülich took part in the First World War as a volunteer. After graduating from high school, which he passed as an external student in 1919 , he studied economics , law and geography in Marburg , Vienna and Kiel , where he also received his doctorate in political science in 1924 ( basic issues of Greater Romanian economic policy ). In the same year he became director of the library of the Institute for the World Economy in Kiel , which he expanded into the leading specialist and research library for economics . He held this position until 1946 and again from 1950. During this time he appointed Gertrud Savelsberg as his deputy, who also supported him significantly in his political activities.
Since 1941, Gülich has worked as a librarian at the German Institute for International Studies, headed by Franz Alfred Six . In August 1942 Gülich was appointed honorary professor for literacy in economics and social sciences at the University of Kiel.
In addition, he was a board member of the Society for Internal Colonization and a member of the supervisory board of the economic development fund and the Schleswig-Holstein Landgesellschaft. Gülich was President of the Southeast Europe Society from 1958 until his death .
Gülich was a Protestant and married twice.
Political party
Gülich was a member of the DNVP from 1919 to 1921 . From 1927 he was involved in the Republican Club in Kiel . In 1945 he joined the SPD.
MP
Gülich was a member of the state parliament in Schleswig-Holstein from 1947 to 1950 . There he represented the constituency of Lauenburg / Elbe . From May 8, 1947 to August 28, 1949 Gülich was chairman of the parliament's committee for the constitution and rules of procedure.
From 1949 until his death in 1960 he was a member of the German Bundestag and there from 1953 to 1957 deputy chairman of the committee for finance and tax issues. He played a leading role in building the library of the German Bundestag , which he based on the model of the library of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
Wilhelm Gülich was elected to the Bundestag in 1949 as a directly elected member of the Duchy of Lauenburg constituency and then always on the Schleswig-Holstein state list.
Public offices
From January 1946 to August 1948 Gülich was district administrator in the Duchy of Lauenburg and 1947/48 member of the presidium of the German district assembly .
He was Finance Minister of Schleswig-Holstein from August 29, 1949 to September 5, 1950 , after he had previously been parliamentary representative of the Finance Minister from September 7, 1949.
