Richard Schenck

Richard Schenck (born September 11, 1900 in Flensburg , † June 28, 1979 ) was a German economist and politician ( SPD ).

biography

Schenk studied economics and political science at the University of Heidelberg and received his doctorate there. From 1924 he was employed by the Flensburg Chamber of Commerce and from 1926 to 1933 for the Association of German Ship Engineers in Hamburg. After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he lost his position and was imprisoned from 1934 to 1935 in the so-called protective custody. After his release from prison, he worked as a press officer at Rhenania-Ossag Mineralölwerke in Hamburg. From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament. From 1947 to 1949 he was finance minister in the newly formed state of Schleswig-Holstein in the Lüdemann cabinet . From September 1949 to November 1952 he was chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Homeland Federation . In April 1950 he resigned from the SPD. In November 1950 he took part in the founding of the Schleswig-Holstein Community (SHG) and became its 1st chairman.
