Kurt Georg Wernicke

Kurt Georg Wernicke (born October 6, 1909 in Berlin ; † November 8, 1997 in Bonn ) was a German lawyer and librarian.

After studying law, Wernicke worked as a judge in Berlin until the Second World War. 1948–1949 he was a research assistant in the Committee on Policy Issues of the Parliamentary Council . After the Basic Law had been promulgated , he took care of the preparation and documentation of the development materials in the processing office of the Parliamentary Council. In 1952 he took over the editing of the Bonn Commentary on the Basic Law and looked after it until 1960. From 1953 to 1958 he was an assessor at the Federal Disciplinary Court .

Also in 1953 he became head of the scientific department of the Bundestag administration and at the same time - until 1964 - director of the library. In this capacity he set up the systematic documentation of the history of the creation of all federal laws. As part of the Bundestag's press documentation, he also created the caricature collection, which is now the largest in Europe. From 1972 until his retirement in 1974, he headed the Scientific Services Department of the Bundestag, which was reorganized in 1970 .

He was honored in particular by being awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit and by the dedication of a commemorative publication by the Working Group of Parliament and Authorities Libraries entitled “Information and Documentation in the Official Sector” on his 65th birthday.

Wernicke died on November 8, 1997.
