Angora Peace and Friendship Treaty

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Angora Peace and Friendship Treaty ( Bulgarian Ангорски договор / Angorski dogowor) was a friendship treaty between the Kingdom of Bulgaria and Turkey . He also regulated the compensation for the loss of property of the respective refugees from the Balkan Wars of 1912/1913, which had remained open in the Treaty of Constantinople of 1913. The contract was signed on October 18, 1925 in Angora (now Ankara ) by Simeon Radew and Tevfik Kâmil Bey . Although it was ratified by the parliaments of the two states, Turkey has not yet implemented it.

The property to be compensated is divided as follows:

Houses: 34,062 Bulgarian houses in Turkey and 3,607 Turkish houses in Bulgaria
Fields and meadows: 1,960,000  as Bulgarian property in Turkey and 286,000 as Turkish property in Bulgaria
Forests: 216,000 from Bulgarians to Turkey and 1,225 from Turks in Bulgaria.

Since the implementation is still open and against the background of the ongoing accession negotiations between the EU and Turkey, the problem of compensation that had been open since 1925 was included in the European Parliament in 2008 as a point for the accession negotiations. With the protocol, the European Parliament calls on the Turkish government, among other things, to accelerate the compensation process for the Bulgarian refugees from Thrace . According to official data from the Bulgarian government from 1983, payments to Bulgaria amounting to 10 billion US dollars by the Turkish state are still outstanding.

In 2010, Boschidar Dimitrov , Minister without Portfolio and responsible for Bulgarians living abroad, put the figure at US $ 20 billion. The Bulgarian government also announced that it would consider its right of veto in relation to compensation for the Thracian Bulgarians in the event of Turkey joining the EU.

In October 2010, Ataka party leader Wolen Siderow spoke of 10 billion euros. According to him, only by paying them can the question of the goods and countries of the Bulgarians displaced by genocidal displacement be resolved .
