The Friedenskirche is the Protestant church in the market town of Peggau in Styria . It was built at the beginning of the 20th century.

history

The church was built in 1906 by Otto Bartning and consecrated on November 1st of the same year. It was rebuilt in the 1960s. The altar wall relief was designed by Fritz Hartlauer in 1966. Since it turned out that the old, squat church tower could not carry bells, the architect Karl August Bieber designed the current tower in 1967 . In 1996, architect Georg Moosbrugger added a small extension with rooms for community work.

description

The rectory in January 2012

The church was designed by Otto Bartning according to the typical construction of Protestant churches. The church, the parish hall and the rectory form an L-shaped complex. The main facade is in three parts and has small window arcades at the level of the gallery . The church tower in front dates from 1967 and has an openwork helmet , the rectory has a mansard roof .

The interior was originally designed in color: the walls were light brown with dark red stripes, the arched areas dark orange, the cornices light green, the choir room light purple, the wooden ceiling sky blue and the benches, the altar and the pulpit white. Since the renovation in the 1960s, the interior has been kept entirely in white.

The altar wall used to be divided by three arches, the middle arch above the pulpit altar open to the organ gallery. On the left and right arches there were two pictures by Ludwig Bartning with Jacob's fountain and the healing of a blind man. These two pictures are in the extension today. The mortar cut relief on the altar wall was made by Fritz Hartlauer in 1966 and shows the “primordial cell” and the “universal cross shape”.
