Fritz Hartlauer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich "Fritz" Hartlauer (* 1919 in Kumberg near Graz ; † September 6, 1985 in Graz, Austria ) was an Austrian painter, graphic artist, sculptor , craftsman, designer and architect.

Life

After military service between 1945 and 1948, when Fritz Hartlauer was already creating his first sculptures, he completed an extraordinary degree at the Ortweinschule (arts and crafts school, master craftsman school) in Graz. He himself described his artistic starting position at that time. The fascination of the discoveries of shapes and contexts made in this way made studying at the art academy seem unnecessary to me and therefore remained self-taught.

On September 6, 1985, he committed suicide. He is buried in the St. Leonhard Cemetery in Graz .

In 1948 he began the artistic analysis of the human head and developed the original cell from it as the central motif of his artistic research. In 1955 he began to deal with the geometrical-symbolic design, dealing with the themes of the primordial cell or primordial cell system, the mystery of the cross and fantastic laws. At the same time he received commissions for public space from the Catholic Church. In the summer of 1962 he took part in the sculpture symposium St. Margarethen in Burgenland and between 1972 and 1976 dealt with the 'Stephansplatz project' initiated by Karl Prantl .
