The Peace Church in Wiesbaden

The Friedenskirche in Wiesbaden is a neo-Gothic building that was built from 1898 to 1900. The architect was Max Schröder .

After its founding, the Catholic Parish of Old Catholics Wiesbaden was given the use of the Bonifatius Church by the state, which led to disputes with the members of the community who remained Roman Catholic . After the dispute was over, the old Catholic community moved out in 1886, so that a new building was necessary.

The acute-angled property at the corner of Schwalbacher Straße / Platter Straße was chosen as the building site, which promised to set an urban accent due to its elevated location at the upper end of Schwalbacher Straße, but was also very cramped. The commissioned architect Max Schröder, who had also built the old Catholic Christ Church in Offenbach , was unable to carry out an easting . He designed a single-nave neo-Gothic building with a polygonal choir in the south and a tower in the northwest.

The interior is richly painted and has a dark wooden ceiling with hangers . The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1898 and the consecration took place in 1900.

A Roman fort was located very close to the location of the church from 89 to approx. 130.
