History and focus

In order to create a positive motivating peace literature on the one hand and to promote a new generation of peace-oriented authors, Helene Walterskirchen launched the peace literature project Peace Writer with the sub-project "Youth writes for peace". Every year a writing competition on the subject of peace is advertised and the four winners are awarded the Peace Literature Prize Peace Writer in connection with prize money donated by Helene Walterskirchen and AdmaCUM eV.

The project “The Peace Writer / Youth Writes for Peace” is a double project. In its first year of existence, 2012, it was aimed at adults: The topic for the first writing competition was: “My most beautiful peace story”.

In 2013 it was aimed at young people between the ages of 13 and 19 and there were two writing competitions. The topic of the first was: “Why I love peace” and the second was: “My future vision: a world without wars”.

In 2014 there was again a call for tenders for “the peace writers”, ie for people aged 16 and over. The topic was: "My appeal for peace to the Syrian President al-Assad ". The four winning entries were sent with an accompanying letter to the Syrian ambassador in Berlin with the request that they be forwarded to President al-Assad.

In 2015, the minimum age for participants was reduced to 15 years, bringing about a move towards “Youth Writes for Peace”. The theme was: "My homage to the UN peace ambassador Jane Goodall ".
