Nashville Plantation is a plantation in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 46 people lived there in 25 households on an area of ​​92.2 km². Due to its small population, Nashville Plantation does not have its own local government, but does so from nearby Ashland .

Geographical location

The Nashville Plantation is in northeast Aroostook County. The Little Machias Lake , through which the Little Machias River flows to the southeast, is located in the northwest of Plantation. It is the largest lake in the Nashville area. The surface of the area is flat, without any higher elevations.

history

The Nashville Plantation was organized on June 25, 1860 to give residents the right to vote. The original name was Township Number 12 Sixth Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T12 R6 WELS). Nashville was reorganized in 1873 and 1889. Eventually the status was confirmed in 1895.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Nashville is on Maine State Route 11 , the Aroostook Sceanic Highway , one of the oldest roads in northern Maine. It connects the Nashville Plantation with Fort Kent in the north and Sherman in the south.

The Oakfield – Fort Kent railway line runs through the area, but is up for sale or decommissioning and is only used irregularly by the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway for freight traffic. The former passenger station was in the Skerry settlement .

The nearest airport with scheduled flights is in Presque Isle.

Public facilities

Nashville Plantation does not have its own library, the Ashland Community Library is the closest for the residents of the Plantation.

The Katahdin Valley Health Center has a facility in Ashland.

The schooling of school children in the Plantation is organized with the Nashville Plantation School District .
