history

Originally a Massachusetts township, Easton was transferred to Maine around 1854. Noah Barker divided the area up in 1855 and after that it was free for settlement. One of the first settlers was Henry Wilson from Presque Isle who taught school in a log cabin from 1847. At that point there was a forest road to Presque Isle. The first settlers paid for their land by reclaiming it and building a road from Fort Fairfield to Blaine, which was surveyed in 1856 and was passable from 1859. Easton had a population of about 400 by 1865 and was declared a town that year.

Food processing companies such as McCain Foods and the wood industry are now also of great importance for the economic situation.
