history

The original name of the area was Township Letter G, First Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (TG R1 WELS). Hamlin was organized as part of Van Buren Plantation in 1843 to give residents the right to vote. As Hamlin Plantation, the area became independent in 1859 and the town was founded in 1976. Hamlin was named after Vice President Hannibal Hamlin . 56.8% of Hamlin's residents are French-speaking .

The former Roosevelt School building , built in 1933, now serves as the Town Hall for Hamlin Town. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007 under number 07000598.
