New Canada is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 321 people lived there in 146 households on an area of ​​94.2 km².

Geographical location

New Canada is in northeast Aroostook County between Eagle Lake in the south and Fort Kent in the north. In the south there are three larger lakes in the chain of Sly Brook Lakes . New Canada was founded in 1840 as Hancock Plantation , along with Wallagrass. The original name was Township No. 17, Sixth Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T17 R6 WELS). In 1859 Wallagrass was spun off and in 1881 the Hancock Plantation was renamed New Canada. It was recognized as a town on March 26, 1976. New Canada is also called Daigle after the town's only settlement area .
