Westmanland is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . The town was founded in 1892 and is part of the so-called Swedish Colony in Maine. In 2010, 62 people lived there in 102 households on an area of ​​94.4 km².

Geographical location

The town is located northwest of Caribou (Maine) and is traversed by the Little Madawaska River in a northeastern direction. The Madawaska Lake is north of the Town and Mud Lake in the south. The water bodies do not belong to the Westmanland area. The surface of the town is flat, without any significant elevations.

history

The area was part of the Houlton Academy Grand and the original name was Township No. 15, Fourth Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T15 R4 WELS). In 1892 the area was organized as the Westmanland Plantation, this was confirmed in 1895. There are two villages in the town area, Blackstone and Westmanland. Westmanland became a town in 1977.

None of Maine's major highways runs through Westmanland. The Maine State Route 161 runs east of Westmanland by the Town New Sweden.
