Wallagrass is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . Wallagrass was originally founded by Acadian settlers under the name Hancock Plantation and was administered as a plantation until 1979 . In 2010, 546 people lived there in 309 households on an area of 105.7 km².

Geographical location
Wallagrass is located between Eagle Lake on the lake of the same name in the south and Fort Kent in the north. The Fish River , the outlet of Eagle Lake, flows north through Wallagrass and joins the Saint John River at Fort Kent . The land is mostly hilly and forested. The highest point is the 356 m high Michaud Hill .

history
The original name for this area was Township 17 Seventh Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T17 R7 WELS). First organized as Hancock Plantation with the New Canada Area in 1840 to give residents the right to vote, it was spun off from Hancock Plantation in 1850 as Walagrass Plantation . This was confirmed in 1863, the spelling was changed to Wallagrass Plantation . Confirmed again in 1970 and 1871. Wallagrass became a town on June 4, 1979.

By Wallagrass runs parallel to the north to south Fish River , the Maine State Route 11 . It connects Wallagrass with Fort Kent in the north and Ashland in the south.

Wallagrass does not have its own library. The closest is in Fort Kent.
Fort Kent has a private hospital, the Northern Maine Medical Center , which is also a contact point for the residents of Wallagrass.

Wallagrass is part of the Maine School Administrative District # 27 with Allagash, Eagle Lake, Fort Kent, Saint Francis, Saint John Plantation, New Canada and the Winterville Plantation .
