history

Originally organized as Dayton Plantation to give residents the right to vote, the area was renamed in 1848. It was previously known as Township No. 5, Fifth Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T5 R5 WELS). The town of Hersey was founded on January 25, 1873 and named after the politician Samuel F. Hersey .
