Geographical location
Hersey is located in the southwest of Aroostook County, on the border with Penobscot County . Several smaller rivers run through Hersey. They flow south. The Crystal Lake is located in the area of Town. The surface of Hersey is very flat, with no significant elevations.

history
Originally organized as Dayton Plantation to give residents the right to vote, the area was renamed in 1848. It was previously known as Township No. 5, Fifth Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T5 R5 WELS). The town of Hersey was founded on January 25, 1873 and named after the politician Samuel F. Hersey .

The Maine State Route 11 , the Aroostook Seanic Highway runs the Town through the northwest corner.
The International Appalachian Trail , a long distance hiking trail , runs through Hersey.
