Patten is a town in Penobscot County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1,017 inhabitants in 565 households on an area of 99.07 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Patten has a total area of 99.07 km², of which 98.91 km² is land and 0.16 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Patten is northeast of Penobscot County and borders Aroostook County . To the west of the area is Wiley Pond . Several smaller rivers flow through the Patten area. The area is flat, without any higher elevations.

history
The Town Patten was founded on April 16, 1841. Previously, the area was named Township No. 4, Sixth Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T4 R6 WELS) . The town was named after Amos Patten, a wealthy lumberjack from Bangor. He bought the land around 1830 when it was first settled. The first settlers included Samuel Wiggin and Elijah Kellogg. Samuel Leslie founded his first sawmill from Lincoln in 1835, and in the same year he also founded a flour mill. The settlement was organized as a plantation in 1840. The Patten Academy was founded in 1847 and in 1848 61 students attended school, including 33 boys and 28 girls. It existed until 1998.
The central industry in Patten was the timber industry. A museum in memory of this fact was opened in Patten in 1963.
The Patten and Sherman Railroad was founded in 1895 with the aim of connecting Patten to the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad network. This succeeded in 1896 and the Patten Junction – Patten railway line created in this way existed until 2000.

The Patten Lumbermen's Museum was founded in 1963 and deals with the history of Maine's timber industry.

Maine State Route 11 runs through Patten in a north-south direction . It is crossed by Maine State Route 199, which runs in a west-east direction .

The Patten Free Library has its origins in the Bath Social Library . A book stamp from 1799 has been preserved from her. In 1847 this went on in the Patten Library Association .
