history

The land grant for the Eddington area was awarded to Jonathan Eddy and nineteen others in 1785. Settlement in the Eddington area started immediately. Eddington was organized as Town on February 22, 1811, under the name Eddington after Jonathan Eddy. Previously, the area was organized as Eddington Plantation.

The original name for the area was Township No. 10, East Side of the Penobscot River (T10 EPR) . Parts of Jarvis Gore were added in 1823 and parts of Brewer in 1846 and 1855.
