Geographical location
Brewer is on the south bank of the Penobscot River in southern Penobscot County. A 400 m long bridge connects it with Bangor . The surface is flat, without any significant elevations.

history
The Brewer area was initially part of the Orrington Town and was organized as a Town in 1812. In 1889 it was organized as a city. Brewer is named after Colonel John Brewer, who was the first settler to settle in what is now Brewer Village in 1770. The first post office was opened in 1780. Colonel Brewer was the first post-master.
Property was given to Eddington in 1856 and 1855, and to Holden in 1852.

traffic
The Interstate 395 extends from Bangor coming to Brewer and opens on the US Highway 1A through Bangor. Maine State Route 15 and Maine State Route 178 run parallel to the Penobscot River .
