Mount Chase is a town in Penobscot County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 201 inhabitants in 297 households on an area of 97.72 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Mount Chase has a total area of 97.72 km², of which 94.92 km² are land and 2.8 km² are water .
Geographical location
Mount Chase is in northeast Penobscot County and borders Aroostook County . In the northwest of the area are the Upper Shin Pond and the Lower Shin Pond . Several smaller rivers flow through the Mount Chase area. The area is hilly, the highest point being Mount Chase, 736 m high.

history
The area was first organized as Monterey Plantation in 1860 , then as Mount Chase Plantation in 1862 for suffrage , and finally as Town Mount Chase on March 21, 1864 . A reorganization to a plantation took place on April 6, 1936 and since 1979 Mount Chase is again organized as a town. The area was originally mapped under the name Township No. 5, Sixth Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T5 R6 WELS) . Mount Chase is very popular as a holiday region and also with artists.
