history

Kenduskeag was organized on February 20, 1852 from parts of the Levant and Glenburn Towns as an independent town. The area was settled by white immigrants in the early 1800s. The name Kenduskeag comes from the Abenaki language and means place to catch eels . Samuel de Champlain mentioned the place on his research trip in 1604 when he observed Indians fishing eel there .

In Kenduskeag on the Kenduskeag-Strom is the starting point of the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race (Kenduskeag-Strom-Kanu-Race), which takes place annually in April.
