Holden is located in southeast Penobscot County and borders Hancock County . Davis Pond and Holbrook Pond are adjacent to the northeast and Brewer Lake to the southwest . The surface is flat, without any significant elevations.

history
Holden was organized as an independent town on April 13, 1852. Previously, the area was part of the Brewer area and was called East Brewer . The area was settled from 1786. Initially by eight families, for whom the men had mostly served in the American War of Independence .
