Medway is a town in Penobscot County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1349 inhabitants in 658 households on an area of ​​106.55 km².

Geographical location

Medway is centrally located in Penobscot County, with Aroostook County to the east . Settlement of the area started around 1820. A part of the area was organized in 1852 as Medway Plantation, another part in 1854 as Pattagumpus Plantation (TA R6 WELS). From these two plantations, Medway was organized as a town on February 8, 1875.

Medway flourished during the wood boom due to its strategic location at the confluence of the Penobscot River. As the boom subsided, Medway began to decline in population.

The Interstate 95 runs in a north-south direction by Medway. The Maine State Route 157 runs parallel to the West Branch Penobscot River, initially south of the river, later on the north side and on the south side the Maine State Route 116 .
