history

First settlers reached the area in 1814. Maxfield was organized as a town on February 6, 1824. The area was previously part of the Bridhton Academy Grant . The settlement was extensively destroyed by a large fire in 1829. Buildings, mills, the grain in the fields, almost everything burned and many of the settlers left Maxfield without returning. The development of the area came to a standstill almost completely.
