The snowfalls between October and May are up to two and a half meters, more than twice as high as the average snow depth in the USA; the daily sunshine duration is at the lower end of the range in the USA.

history

After the area was surveyed, it was named Township No. 2, Seventh Range North of Waldo Patent (T2 R7 NWP) . As early as 1808, James Grover lived with his family on the south bank of the Piscataquis near the upper ferry. A Mr. Boobar followed, and later a Mr. Weston and two Hitchborns came from Bangor. Around 1820 the state opened Bennock Road from the Piscataquis River to Oldtown. The western half was given to David Gilmore in 1816 for making Dixmont Road. The eastern half was bought by General John Parker Boyd that same year . On January 31, 1824, it was organized as a Town under the name Kilmarnock . The choice of name went back to the request of General Boyd. The name was changed to Medford in 1856 at the request of the residents . Historians suggest that the name Kilmarnock goes back to the town where General Boyd's father may have originally come from. The right to be organized as a town was given up in 1940 and the area was organized as a plantation in 1942 . Again as Town, Medford was reorganized in 1967.

Boyd built the largest sawmill on the Penobscot or one of its branches in 1820 at the point where the Schoodic Stream flows into the Piscataquis. It had several successors. In 1835 a sawmill and a gristmill were built in Cold Brook and the settlement of Medford emerged around them.

Medford is part of the Three Rivers Community Alliance , a loose community association based in Milo .
