Parkman is a town in Piscataquis County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 843 people lived there in 538 households on an area of 119.27 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Parkman has a total area of 119.27 km², of which 117.15 km² are land and 2.12 km² are water .
Geographical location
Parkman is located in the southwest of the Piscataquis County and is adjacent to the Penobscot County and Somerset County . To the northeast is Harlow Pond . There are other smaller lakes in the town area. The surface is slightly hilly and the highest point is the centrally located, 328 m high Crow Hill .

history
Settlement of Parkman by European settlers began in 1810. The area was bought by Samuel Parkman of Boston . The first settlers were Peter and William Cummings, Ephraim Andrews, Arvida Briggs, William Brewster and Richard Caswell. Samuel Pingree also moved in early and became the owner's representative. He settled near the city center, where a saw and grist mill was put into operation. Pingree was a hatter by trade and made the first hats made in the county. Parkman was initially called Township No. 5, Sixth Range North of Waldo Patent (T5 R6 NWP) . On January 29, 1822, Parkman was organized under its current name as Town.
