In 1803 the treasurer sold the land to Richard Pike of Newbury Port. In 1804 he sold part of it to Captain Benjamin Wyatt. Soon after, David and Charles Coffin, Mary Pike and Philip Coombs bought equal shares and became owners. The first settler in the area was Captain Ezekiel Chase. Chase was a soldier in the American Revolution and later lived as a successful hunter in the woods. He settled on a property on the Piscataquis River and in September 1803 he moved permanently to Sebec with his family. Their first child was born in the coming year. More settlers settled and on February 27, 1812 the town was organized.
Sebec belongs to the Three Rivers Community Alliance , a loose community association. The headquarters of the association is in Milo.
