Guilford is a town in Piscataquis County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 1521 inhabitants in 882 households on an area of 92.49 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Guilford has a total area of 92.49 km², of which 90.34 km² are land and 2.15 km² are water .
Geographical location
Guilford is in the south of Piscataquis County . The Piscataquis River flows in an easterly direction and forms the southern border of the area. First Davis Pond is in the northwest , Big Bennett Pond in the northeast , Salmon Stream Pond in the center and Dunham Pond is in the east of the town. The surface is slightly hilly, the highest point is the 387 m high Guilford Mountain .

history
Guilford was first settled in the area of the Piscataquis River. A wool factory was also established there, producing around 625 m of cloth a day, as well as other water mills for wood and grain.
Guilford was one of the areas under the Bowsoin College grant . Previous names of the area were: Township No. 6, Seventh Range North of Waldo Patent [T6 R7 NWP], one of the Bowdoin College townships, Guilford Township and Lowstown .
The first settler in Guilford was Robert Low Jr., who settled there with his family in 1806. More settlers reached the area a short time later. Guilford was organized as a town on February 8, 1816. The residents advocated the name Fuvanna , but Guilford was determined by the government .

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
The Maine State Route 6 leads to the south parallel to the Piscataquis River from west to east through the area of Guilford. Maine State Route 150 runs north-south along the western boundary of the town .
Guilford is on the Old Town – Greenville railway line , which today only carries goods.
Public facilities
There are no medical facilities or hospitals in Guilford. The closest are at Dexter and Dover-Foxcroft.
