history

Bowerbank was organized as a town on March 4, 1839. Bowerbank lost this status on February 16, 1889. At that time, Bowerbank was organized as a plantation, which was confirmed in 1895. On February 28, 1907, it was reorganized as a town. Originally the area was called Township No. 7, Eight Range North of Waldo Patent (T7 R8 NWP) .

In 1818 part of Foxcroft, now Dover-Foxcroft, was added and in 1927 part of the Sebec area.

The town was named after a London businessman named Bowerbank , who was the first owner of the township. The first settler to settle was a Mr. Robinson in 1825 who built a house and stable. More settlers followed. The Village Bowerbank is located in the south of the area on Sebec Lake. The northern part of the town was opened up by the Brookport – Mattawamkeag line of the Canadian Pacific Railway , with Benson and Moore's Camp there were also two train stations. On December 20, 1919, there was a serious Benson railway accident in which 23 people died in a collision between two trains. The railway line is used today by the Central Maine and Quebec Railway in freight traffic.

Today Bowerbank is part of the Three Rivers Community Alliance , a loose community association based in Milo .
