history
In 1975, the Beaver Cove area was organized as a plantation. Before that it belonged to the Gore A2 WELS, more precisely Township A2, Thirteenth and Fourteenth Ranges West of the Eastern Line of the State (TA2 R13 WELS & TA2 R14 WELS) . Organizations that affected the area were Bowdoin College Grant East, Bowdoin College Grant West, Frenchtown Township, Greenville, Lily Bay Township, and Shawtown Township . Beaver Cove was organized as a town on January 31, 1978.
Beaver Cove was created as a designer community by the Huber Lumber Corporation, who owned the land on the east side of Moosehead Lake. The community has been designed to include condominiums near what is now the marina, smaller lots in the Village Circle area, and larger lots on North Ridge and Black Point Road. The Huber Lumber Corporation also established two associations to control and maintain public land and public beaches. These organizations are called the Beaver Cove Association and the North Ridge Association. The main office of the marina was originally planned as a town hall. Since not all land could be sold in the 1970s, part of the unsold land was laid out as common land or as a green belt. In 1973, property owners who recruited additional buyers were given a color television or a birch bark canoe as a bonus. Some of the land is still owned by these associations and with the purchase of such land you become a member of the association and have to pay an annual membership fee.
