List of ethnic groups
This list of ethnic groups sorts ethnic groups and indigenous peoples in alphabetical order (without claiming to be exhaustive). Some smaller groups and many indigenous groups are missing (see list of indigenous peoples ); Groups that no longer exist today are not listed.
There is an ongoing and controversial debate about the classification of ethnic groups. Belonging to an ethnic group is usually associated with a common origin, history, homeland, language or dialect and cultural heritage. The term culture particularly includes aspects such as religion , mythology and rituals, cuisine, clothing style and other factors. Ethnic groups can be divided into subgroups that may or may not be identified as independent ethnic groups depending on the source.
