Kadazan-Dusun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kadazan-Dusun or Kadazandusun is a collection of various indigenous tribes in Sabah , Malaysia that belong to the Dusun or Kadazan ethnic group . The Kadazandusun Cultural Association Sabah (KDCA) stipulates that it belongs to the collective term Kadazan-Dusun in Article 6 of its constitution.

Associated ethnic groups

According to Article 6 of the KDCA Constitution, the term Kadazan-Dusun is a "general and comprehensive ethnic label that includes the following ethnic groups on the basis of the respective culture, tribal affiliation, language, dialect and way of speaking":

history

The name is based on an official decision of the 5th Conference of Delegates of the Kadazan Cultural Association (KCA) on November 4th and 5th, 1989. During the conference, there was consensus that this was the best alternative to the identity crisis, either as Kadazan or Dusun To encounter ethnic groups that, since the politicization of differences of opinion between the two ethnic groups in the 1960s, had weakened and hindered the growth and development of the multi-ethnic Kadazan Dusun community in socio-cultural, economic and political terms.

On this basis, the United Sabah Dusun Association (USDA) and the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) decided that the language to be taught in local schools (Pupils' Own Language - POL) is called the Kadazandusun language and is mainly derived from the Bundu-Liwaan Dialect with borrowings from the other Kadazandusun dialects. A chair for Kadazandusun was established at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to further research and document the cultural heritage of the Kadazan-Dusun. The university also offers language courses in Kadazandusun as an optional subject, which are particularly popular among foreign students.
