history

Dyer Brook was first settled in 1844, the original name of the area was Township No. 5, Second Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T5 R2 WELS). Orrin Laughton is considered the first settler. In 1858 the area was organized as a plantation to give the residents the opportunity to vote, as was the case in 1880 and 1887. In 1880, the village had 40 residents with voting rights. It was officially recognized on March 21, 1891. In the 1990s , the town experienced an economic crisis in which it lost 18% of its population. Today Dyer Brook is part of the Southern Aroostook Community School District.
