New Limerick is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 510 inhabitants in 407 households on an area of 50.6 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has an area of 50.6 km²; 47.8 km² of this is land and 2.8 km² is water .
Geographical location
New Limerick is located in southeastern Aroostook County , near the border with Canada . The South Branch Meduxnekeag River flows through the town . In addition, the area is criss-crossed by several small watercourses and lakes. In the south, the larger areas of water of the Nickerson Lakes and Meduxnekeag Lakes border, in the northwest that of the Cochrane Lakes . Other smaller lakes such as Bradbury Lake , County Road Lake or Green Pond are located in the area of the town. The surface of the town is flat, without any significant elevations.

history
New Limerick was settled in 1775 and organized together with Ludlow as a plantation in 1830. On March 18, 1837, Ludlow was separated and New Limerick was recognized as a town. As the name suggests, many of the first settlers came from Limerick , but not from the original Irish town , but from a town of the same name in York County . In 1880, New Limerick had a tannery , two sawmills, and a starch factory.

The Interstate 95 runs along the northern border of the Town in west-east direction. It runs from Bangor in the south to the Canadian border. US Highway 2 runs parallel to the interstate from Oakfield in the west to Houlton in the east.
