Haynesville is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 121 people lived there in 107 households on an area of 108.5 km².

Geographical location
Haynsville is in the south of Aroostook County. The Mattawamkeag River with its tributaries flows through the town in a southerly direction. There are no lakes in the Haynsville area. The surface is flat, in the north of the town lies the 170 m high Mitchel Mountain, the highest point in Haynsville.

history
So that residents could get the right to vote, Haynsville was organized as the Haynesville Plantation in 1859 . The area was previously named Township No. 2, Second Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T2 R2 WELS) . The town of Haynsville was founded on February 18, 1876. It was named after the businessman Alvin Haynes. In 1877 what was previously known as Leavitt Plantation was spun off and transferred to Forkstown Township.
Country singer Dick Curless dedicated the song A Tombstone Every Mile to the Haynsville Highway . In this song he describes the dangerousness of the road, which is used by many truckers to drive to the markets in Boston. The route through the woods is so notorious that ghost stories have even formed.
