Littleton is located in southeast Aroostook County, on the border with Canada . The Meduxnekeag River flows through the eastern part of the town. Watson Settlement Bridge

The northern part was given by the Massachusetts Legislature to Framingham Academy as a grant in 1801, the southern part to Williams College in 1800. The southern part is now part of Houlton. Although settlement began early, it was not until 1856 that there were enough residents for a town to be formed. This happened on March 18, 1856.

The surface of the town is mixed with forest areas. The land is fertile and has good harvests. Watermills were operated on Meduxnekeag and Big Brook.

The Watson Settlement Bridge is a listed bridge in Littleton. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 under number 70000039. The Watson Settlement Bridge is a historic covered bridge. Built in 1911, it is one of the youngest of Maine's few covered bridges.

US Highway 1 runs through Littleton in a north-south direction . It connects Littleton with Presque Isle in the north and Houlton in the south. Littleton is connected to the national rail network by the Brownville – Saint-Leonard line .

The nearest airport, Houlton International Airport, is located in neighboring Houlton . Currently (2007) there are only charter flights. The airport also houses a flight school.
