Orient is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 147 inhabitants in 282 households on an area of ​​97.5 km².

Geographical location

Orient is in the southeast of Aroostook County, right on the border with Canada , there is a border crossing to New Brunswick . The boundary follows the St. Croix River , which flows in a southerly direction . As well as the adjacent North Lake and Grand Lake . There is a border crossing to Canada between these two lakes. The Town Orient was founded on April 9, 1856. The area was settled as early as 1830. In 1844 the Orient Plantation was founded to give the residents the right to vote. The Orient Plantation and the eastern half of the Greenwood Plantation were combined in 1856 to form the Town Orient. The western part of Greenwood Plantation was added to Haynesville Town in 1876. The original name was Orient Gore, or Township 9, First Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T9 R1 WELS, or T9 Greenwood's Survey). The Monroe Gore area east of Weston was added in 1847.
