The Peace School is a comprehensive school in the Mecklenbeck district of Münster . It is sponsored by the Roman Catholic diocese of Münster .

Basics

The Peace School was founded in 1969 as an attempt at an all-day, structured comprehensive school. The foundation fell in the phase in which state comprehensive schools were founded in Germany for the first time to a greater extent. The replacement of the elementary school as a regular school by elementary and secondary schools also fell during this period. As an episcopal comprehensive school, it was a unique model in Germany when it was founded. The peace school has a high school.

School policy

The aim was to create a "student-friendly school" in which students are encouraged individually and as independently of their social origin as possible. This should be done in accordance with the educational goals for Catholic schools, which were fundamentally defined by the Second Vatican Council.

With regularly six entrance classes with around 180 pupils in the fifth year, a ratio of around 5/6 of pupils with a Catholic denomination to the other admitted pupils is maintained. Half of the two entrance classes are assigned to Catholic students, the other four entrance classes are largely denominationally uniform. A balanced ratio of students of different levels of ability is aimed for at the time of admission.

In terms of performance, there is a differentiation in the composition of the school classes for the first time in the 6th year in the subjects English and mathematics, German follows in the 7th year. The school basically follows the legal requirements, but sometimes starts differentiating earlier than normally intended. At the beginning of the 8th school year, the classes are completely reassembled according to performance criteria.

Big Band

A school big band was founded in 1983, aimed at students of all grades. Under the direction of music teacher Dieter Niermann, she won a third prize in the state competition Jugend jazzt in 2017 ; In 2019 she was the winner of the state competition. In 2020 she was awarded the WDR Jazz Prize for promoting young talent.
