Friederike Caroline von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld (born June 24, 1735 in Coburg , † February 18, 1791 in Unterschwaningen ) was a princess of Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld and by marriage the last Margravine of Brandenburg-Ansbach and Bayreuth .

Life

Friederike Caroline was a daughter of Duke Franz Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (1697–1764) from his marriage to Anna Sophia (1700–1780), daughter of Prince Ludwig Friedrich I of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

She married Margrave Karl Alexander of Brandenburg-Ansbach and Bayreuth (1736-1806) in Coburg on November 22, 1754 . The marriage was concluded for dynastic reasons. Although Friederike was considered virtuous, gentle, benevolent and pious, Karl Alexander found his wife unsightly, uneducated and boring. The marriage remained childless, Karl Alexander pushed his wife to Schwaningen Castle in Unterschwaningen and turned to his lover Elizabeth Craven .

Friederike Caroline's brother Friedrich Josias owed his sister to be accepted into the regiment of his brother-in-law as Rittmeister, which became the starting point of his brilliant military career.

After Friederike Caroline's death, her husband resigned from the government, left the country and married his English mistress. Friederike Caroline is buried in the Gumbertus Church in Ansbach .
