Julius Mebes

Julius Mebes (* 1796 ; † October 19, 1882 ) was a Prussian colonel and author of a two-volume treatise on Prussian history and the army .

Life

Mebes joined the Brandenburg fortress pioneer company of the Prussian army in 1812 . In 1813 he was promoted to second lieutenant in the company and in the same year he was employed as a field engineer outside Danzig . In the following year he was assigned to the fortification service in Danzig , Küstrin and Kolberg . In 1815 he became adjutant to Colonel Pullet , the brigadier of the fortresses in Pomerania and Brandenburg . Mebes was promoted to prime lieutenant in 1816 and captain in 1817 . He then became an engineer officer from Thorn in 1831 and returned to Danzig in the same function in 1836. His promotion to major took place in 1838 and from 1841 he was commander of the Guard Pioneer Battalion . In 1846 he became the inspector of the third fortress inspection and was promoted to lieutenant colonel the following year . He ended his active career in 1848 as Colonel z. D.

Mebes was honored with the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Red Eagle Order 4th Class, the St. Anne's Order 3rd Class and the Service Award Cross.
