Samuel Pullet

Samuel Pullet (also: Pullett , born April 10, 1770 in Gramzow in the Prenzlau district ; † September 22, 1825 in Grünberg in Silesia ) was a Prussian major general and most recently the chief brigadier of the 2nd engineering brigade.

origin

The family belonged to the French refugees who came to Brandenburg after the edict of Nantes was repealed and originally wrote itself Poulet . His parents were Samuel Poulet (* 1719; † January 17, 1798) and his wife Isabella Hay (* February 15, 1737; † September 1779). His father was court preacher to the French colony in Stettin and head of a teaching institution. His relative, Samuel von Boulet, was the king's wing adjutant . His father married Marianne von der Lahr, a sister of General Heinrich von der Lahr , commander of the old Prussian Mineur Corps.

Life

He attended high school in Szczecin and came on October 22, 1787 (due to confusion) as engineering Kondukteur into the fortress Nysa . From there he was transferred to the engineering academy in Potsdam on October 15, 1788 . His diligence and talent soon made teachers aware of him. But in 1789 he and von Pirch's pupil got into an argument with the director Scheel , who even arrested him for a while , from which he was able to escape. He was then downgraded from Conductor to Eleven. On April 5, 1790 he was appointed lieutenant in the engineering corps of the fortress Graudenz and on November 14, 1793 transferred to Danzig . There he became an engineer on October 24, 1804. In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the defense of Danzig, for which he received the Russian Order of St. George 4th Class and on May 9, 1807 the Pour le Mérite .

In recognition of his brave behavior during the siege, he was promoted directly to major with a patent on June 23, 1807 on June 19, 1807 . On July 22, 1807, he and Captain Tiedemann were appointed members of the border regulation commission for the district of the city of Danzig. On January 28, 1808 he also became a member of the commission of inquiry . On February 12, 1808, he had to go to Breslau , for which he was granted 100 thalers, and on April 14, 1808, he was informed that his salary would be 1000 thalers per year from April 1, 1808. On May 10, 1808, he was transferred to the United Engineering and Artillery Department, but on December 25, 1808, he was transferred to the 3rd Division of the General War Department. To this end, on February 12, 1810, he was brigadier of the fortresses in Pomerania and the Mark. On August 15, 1811, he was commissioned to repair the Spandau fortress .

In the run-up to the War of Liberation , on January 20, 1813, the position of Brigadier of the fortresses was relocated to Kolberg and on April 30, 1813, Pullet joined the Danzig Blockade Corps on the staff of Duke Alexander von Württemberg . During the war he fought in the siege of Danzig and the skirmishes near Nova Scotia, Neufahrwasser and on the Westerplatte . For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Russian Order of St. Anne 2nd Class on June 17, 1813, promotion to Lieutenant Colonel on July 20, 1813, and on September 21, 1813, promotion to Colonel .

After the war, on August 11, 1815, he became the chief engineer officer of the north German federal troops and on August 21, he became the commander of the engineers and pioneers in the V Army Corps . In addition, his salary was increased to 2600 thalers on September 26, 1815, which corresponded to the salary of a regimental commander. On January 5, 1816, he was appointed major general, and on April 20, 1816, he was appointed chief brigadier of the 1st Engineer Brigade. On May 25, 1818 he was appointed senior brigadier of the 2nd engineer brigade. For his efforts he received the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd Class on January 25 , 1825 and the Service Cross on July 16, 1825 . He died shortly afterwards on September 22nd, 1825 in Grünberg in Silesia.

He married on April 4, 1796 in Danzig Karoline Luise Kolshorn (born November 15, 1771, † May 1, 1851), a divorced carpenter, a daughter of the artillery lieutenant August Gottlieb Kolshorn . The couple had several children:
