life and work

Friederike Feldmann grew up in Bielefeld and lives in Berlin . She studied at the Berlin University of the Arts with Wolfgang Ludwig and Achim Freyer . From 2003 to 2004 Feldmann taught as a visiting professor for painting at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts and from 2008 to 2012 as a professor at the Kassel Art Academy . In 2012, she accepted a professorship at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art .

In 1994 Friederike Feldmann exhibited small reminiscences of modern masterpieces in watercolors as the “Feldmann Collection” and began to shape baroque altars, mountain landscapes and the legendary Amber Room with colored silicone. Your focus especially picturesque core aspects such as gesture, texture and representation she sat with paintings continue in the pasty look inking as knotted oriental carpets, while some of them even appear worn, mimicking so time tracks (series Ten Years After , 2004-06). In 2005 the solo exhibition “ New Carpets - Ten Years After ” took place in the Kunsthalle Bielefeld . With the exhibition “ The Author ” (2011), Friederike Feldmann found a new topic that was closely related to her previous work. The emptiness of large canvases and smaller paper formats was covered with lines in a fluid, handwritten gesture. These suggest the written word, but remain irritatingly just below legibility. In more recent series of works, memory and drawing play central roles. They encourage the artist to quickly sketch art-historical portraits or to delve into Wilhelm Busch's imagery .
