Wolfgang Ludwig (artist)

Wolfgang Ludwig (born February 8, 1923 in Mielesdorf , † March 25, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German artist . He is considered to be one of the most important German representatives of Op Art .

Life

Wolfgang Ludwig was born in Mielesdorf in Thuringia in 1923 . He first studied (1947–1950) at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig and then (1950–1956) completed a second degree at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin with Hans Uhlmann and Alexander Camaro . In 1955 he received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. From 1956 to 1967 he worked as a freelancer for the Berlin architect Paul G. R. Baumgarten. In 1967 he took up a position as a lecturer at the Academy for Graphics, Printing and Advertising . From 1971 to 1991 he worked as a professor for visual communication at the University of Fine Arts.

Wolfgang Ludwig died in Berlin in 2009 at the age of 86. His grave is in the forest cemetery in Zehlendorf .
