Friedhelm Gehrmann

Friedhelm Gehrmann (born June 12, 1939 in Dortmund ) is a German economist and social scientist who has been teaching and advising since 1981 and has specialized in international knowledge and technology transfer. He currently heads the institutes “Global Consulting and Government” and “Renewable Energy, Technology and Management” at the Steinbeis University in Berlin .

Life

Friedhelm Gehrmann was born in Dortmund on June 12, 1939. After studying economics and social sciences from 1960 to 1966 at the universities of Saarbrücken, Vienna and Münster and obtaining a doctorate as a Dr. rer. pole. at the University of Münster in 1969, he began working as a research assistant at the Universities of Münster and Augsburg until 1973.

This was followed by a research stay at the UN in Geneva (Economic Commission for Europe) from 1974 to 1976 on the subject of “Recording regional disparities in urban and regional research using economic, social and environmental indicators”. From 1976 to 1980 Gehrmann was a scientific advisor at the Federal Statistical Office and the Hessian state government .

In 1980 he was appointed professor at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration (FH Bund) in Brühl near Bonn . During this period he was seconded several times to various federal ministries in Bonn. From 1982 to 1985 he was a member of the preparation of the UN World Congress "1985: Year of Youth" and a member of the German-Soviet social scientist exchange in connection with the Gromyko Initiative and the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe . From 1983 to 1986 he was a temporary lecturer at the University of Zurich and from 1983 to 1987 he was chairman of the “Social Indicators” section of the German Society for Sociology. After German reunification , a professorship at the Bauhaus University Weimar followed from 1991 to 1996 and an engagement as a consultant to the Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Construction in Russia on the subjects of "renovation of prefabricated buildings" and "qualification concepts for the transformation process in Russia". At the same time he was responsible for the privatization of companies on behalf of the Treuhandanstalt . From 1996 to 1998 he was seconded to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs for a special task as a scientific advisor for economic issues .

From 2000 to 2002 Friedhelm Gehrmann was the spokesman for the scientific advisory board of the "LERNET" program of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and a member of the European Institute for eGovernment. He has been working at the Steinbeis University in Berlin since 2004. There he is director of the Steinbeis institutes “Global Consulting and Government” and “Renewable Energy, Technology and Management”. One focus of the consulting activities in the years 2011–12 was advising ministries and state institutions in Kazakhstan , e. B. MINT (Ministry of Industry and New Technologies), NATD (National Agency for Technological Development). Gehrmann was also appointed as a member of the preparatory committee for the “Astana Economic Forum 2012” and “World Anticrisis Conference Astana”; both conferences were under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Outside the university sector, Gehrmann is the managing partner of IKAT GmbH (International Knowledge and Technology Consulting GmbH), which he founded in 2012. The company focuses on advice on international knowledge and technology transfer.

Focus of work

The first focus of work after the doctorate was the analysis and empirical recording of business indicators and business surveys. The next thematic focus in the period from 1973 to 1994 focused on “Social indicators, social reporting and environmental indicators”. At the same time, from 1987 to 1992 Gehrmann had the further focus of work on “Urban and regional research in emerging countries”. Since around 1989 the focus of work has also shifted to the subjects of “economic consulting and technology transfer in emerging countries”.

Due to the developments in information and communication technologies, the subjects of "e-learning, e-governance and e-business" were the focus in the period 1993-2003. The activities were carried out for both the public and private sectors. Gehrmann has been a member of the Steinbeis conglomerate since 2004. At the Steinbeis University he is director of the institutes "Global Consulting and Government" and "Renewable Energy, Technology and Management" with branches and contact offices in Cairo, Tripoli, Tehran, Moscow, Astana, Shanghai and Singapore.

Because of the consultations carried out on qualification concepts - especially in the emerging countries - the focus of work "Tools for interactive multimedia teaching and learning methods in the digital age" has been gaining in importance for about 5 years. The current focus of work since 2012 has been the analysis and evaluation of "Technology Leap Frogging" with a focus on "Consequences of high-tech implementations in emerging countries". Since 1972, Gehrmann has been on a variety of research and lecture trips to address the aforementioned main areas of work. B. to the USA, Canada, USSR / Russia, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Oman, Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey, Kazakhstan and many European countries.
