Friedhelm Heinrich Ortgies (born May 12, 1950 in Rahden ) is a German politician ( CDU ) who was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament from 2002 to 2017.

education and profession

Ortgies attended secondary school in Rahden ( Minden-Lübbecke district ) and obtained secondary school leaving certificate in 1965. Following this, he began an agricultural apprenticeship, which he completed in 1968. His master's certificate for agriculturalist he graduated in 1974. A year later he took over the family farm, which he until 2000, when he was in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia moved in, farmed. The company was primarily active in the field of pig breeding and processing.

Political career

Ortgies joined the Junge Union in 1973 . In 1974 he became a member of the CDU. As early as 1975, he won a mandate in the city council of Rahden in the local elections for the CDU. In 1982 he took over the chairmanship of the CDU-Stadtverband Rahden, which he held until 1995. After the local elections in 1989 Ortgies became chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in Rahden city council. He resigned from this office in 2000. Ortgies has been deputy chairman of the CDU district association Minden-Lübbecke since 2001, and since 2003 he has been chairman of the CDU's district agricultural committee in Ostwestfalen-Lippe, in which the interests of farmers in the CDU are represented.

Friedhelm Ortgies has been a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament since June 2, 2000. He won the Minden-Lübbecke I state electoral district , where he was able to unite 43.2% of the votes. In the election on May 13, 2000, he expected a defeat due to the CDU donation affair , but was informed by the SPD candidate that he had narrowly won the constituency by 300 votes ahead. In the state elections in 2005 Ortgies was able to improve his constituency result to 50.3% and again moved into the state parliament as a directly elected member. Since August 16, 2005 Ortgies has been the spokesman for the working group on the environment, nature conservation, agriculture and consumer protection of his parliamentary group.

For the state constituency of Minden-Lübbecke I he was re-elected in the state elections in 2010 with 42.1 percent of the vote. In the 15th legislative period (2010–2012) Friedhelm Ortgies was chairman of the committee for climate protection, the environment, nature conservation, agriculture and consumer protection. He was also a full member of the Committee on Budgetary Control and a deputy member of the Committee on Labor, Health, Social Affairs and Integration and the Committee on Building, Housing and Transport.

In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2012 , Ortgies ran again for the CDU Minden-Lübbecke as a direct candidate, but lost his direct mandate to the candidate of the SPD. Nevertheless, he moved into the state parliament over 19th place on the state list.

Friedhelm Ortgies' political focus is primarily on agricultural and consumer protection policy, as well as transport policy . He heads the corresponding committee in the state parliament. In addition, he is considered to represent the interests of rural areas in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2017 he no longer ran for the state elections.
